Playtime at LACMA

Exhibition and symposium
5 May - 11 August 2019

LACMA, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the largest art museum in the western United States, has recently included film installation Playtime (2014) in its permanent collection, which has nearly 140,000 pieces, covering millennia of artistic expression across the globe. Marking the acquisition, the museum has organised an exhibition around the artwork and a symposium, inviting artistic and theoretical reflections on Isaac Julien's oeuvre

The symposium will take place on 18 and 19 May and includes screenings, talks, and panel discussions with historians, scholars and artists. Organised in partnership with University of California Santa Cruz, guest speakers include arts professors B. Ruby Rich, Sarah Thornton, Jennifer González, Mark Nash and Isaac Julien himself, as well as UCSC philosophy alumnus Jeffrey Conrad Stewart (recently awarded a Pulitzer Prize).
