  MoMA Presents Derek

Isaac Julien’s Derek (2008), a documentary written and narrated by and featuring Jarman’s muse, Tilda Swinton, on the influential avant-garde filmmaker Derek Jarman, is given its New York premiere June 9 to 16, with the director introducing the film on June 9. Derek is a recent acquisition by the Museum of Modern Art through the Fund for the Twenty-First Century.

Isaac Julien’s new film installation will combine document with fiction, and experiment with narrative to produce an enthralling work of art about Derek Jarman. The film, Derek will form the centre of an exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery February – April 2008, which will foreground Derek’s interdisciplinary artist’s legacy, reinterpreted as an installation by Isaac Julien.
